TQT: A Trust Building #LifeHack
This week's quick thought is about trust.

Actually, it's a life hack for building trust.

I read an article on Business Insider about 'pratfalls' - small, minor mistakes that can increase people's appeal. Based on a study from the 60's, the 2015 book 'Friend and Foe' picks up this idea.

The idea is that highly competent people can appear more approachable and 'human' with an intentional use of pratfalls: clumsily dropping a pencil or spilling a cup of coffee. These small mistakes build relational capacity with others and lead them to trust you.

As the author states, 'If you want people to trust you, first impress them with your knowledge and capability, and then show them your a human being just like they are.'

So think about some ways that you could exercise this principle when you are dealing with an employee that is untrusting, or with whom you are trying to build a relationship. A dropped pencil or spilled coffee can go a long way.
